LPI Study Abroad for College Credit in Granada, Spain
Spain
Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Dates: Please refer to LPI website
Description:
Granada overflows with cultural and architectural remnants of an illustrious past. At the same time, the modern aspects of this vibrant city are ever-apparent. Granada was the last Muslim kingdom to be recaptured by Spains Catholic monarchs in 1492, and although never officially Spains capital, its symbolic importance in the creation of modern Spain has made it a familiar name to historians and tourists alike. The city lies at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountain range and is just an hour drive from the Mediterranean Sea. The LPI office is conveniently located less than 50 yards from the University of Granada's Centro de Lenguas Modernas (CLM). At the LPI office, students can check their email, receive tutoring, check out books, or simply visit and practice the Spanish language. Each of LPIs resident staff is dedicated to maximizing the students experience while studying abroad. They will conduct the on-site orientation, lead excursions, set up intercambios with local students, and assist students with any school-related questions or problems. Visit the LPI website for photos and bios of the resident staff. The origin of the University of Granada can be traced back to the 14th century. With a history of over 700 years, the university has influenced the social and cultural environment of Spain, becoming one of the countrys major intellectual centers. The university has an enrollment of over 50,000 students, including 5,600 international students. Founded in 1992, the Centro de Lenguas Modernas (CLM) is made up of two sections; one provides Spanish courses for foreign students and the other offers foreign language courses for Spanish speakers. This unique setting makes the CLM the only center in Spain where international students share a campus with Spanish students who are interested in other languages and cultures. There are 1,900 Spanish students and 2,100 foreign students within the CLM. In order to ensure an interactive learning environment, the university places no more than 15 students per classroom.
