Seville (Sevilla)
Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks and 5-8 weeks
Description:
The Center for Cross-Cultural Study offers programs for high school students offered during the Summer terms. Students can choose from a variety of courses within a broad spectrum of disciplines. Courses are designed to advance critical thinking, and mature, correct expression of Spanish language. Depending upon your schedule, interests, and Spanish language level, CC-CS also can tailor special programs for your school. All programs are designed for high school students studying at elementary, intermediate and advanced levels. All classes are taught in Spanish by native professors (avg. class size: 9 students). The CC-CS curriculum emphasizes intensive immersion with a focus on oral proficiency and writing. Each student works at his or her own level after having been assessed by a placement test during orientation. Students may earn 4 credits per term. CC-CS awards up to $2,500 in scholarships to students enrolled in our programs. All students are encouraged to apply. CC-CS has also created the Alumni Scholar Fund which awards stipends up to $1,000 to every student choosing embark on an additional cross-cultural program with CC-CS.
Highlights:
Your academic experience takes place in two classic turn-of-the-century mansions in the heart of Seville's commercial and social district. CC-CS is a short walk from the University of Seville and some of Spain's most glorious and historic sites. These includes the Cathedral and Giralda (the symbol of Seville), the Torre del Oro, the Alcazar palace, many museums and the beautiful Guadalquivir River. Seville is also located within an hour and a half of the Costa del Sol and its sunny beaches. CC-CS led study tours are included at no extra cost. The Center has been a social and cultural gathering place for both Americans and Sevillanos since 1969. Each year, more than two hundred Spaniards study English at the Center and participate in Intercambios (language-exchanges) with American students. In addition to organizing the Intercambio program, the Center actively promotes regular interaction of Spanish and American students by organizing social events and cultural activities such as outings to the theater, festivals and carnivals, art exhibits, concerts of classical and contemporary music, video presentations, and joint fiestas. Shared library facilities, study rooms, lounges and common areas at the Center together with home stays give American students an unparalleled opportunity to learn about the culture and language of Spain first hand.

The Center for Cross-Cultural Study's Mission Statement: The mission of the CC-CS is to promote our students' in-depth understanding of Spanish-speaking countries, through specifically designed academically rigorous university-level programs. We consider all of our students to be willing to cross cultural boundaries, to live as members of another culture, and to thus, learn about others as they learn about themselves.
In accordance with our mission to encourage our students to cross cultural boundaries, CC-CS promotes equal opportunities within our programs and does not discriminate on the basis of an individual's race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, age, physical ability, gender, sexual orientation, or other characteristics. We believe in educating students on cultural tolerance and sensitivity, acceptance of differences, inclusiveness, and how diversity is viewed in other cultures.
