College for High School- European Humanities Tour
Description:
Custom-designed for qualified sophomores, juniors, and seniors, this program begins in the spring and concludes with a tour through Europe in the summer. The innovative educational program offers NINE semester hours of college credit (HUM 2221, HUM 2235, & HUM 2250) and allows students to learn while having the time of their life! During one of two sessions (from June 1-28 or June 15- July 12), students travel throughout Europe visiting the sites they have just studied. Paintings, sculptures, monuments, and historical sites come to life before their eyes as they experience the art and culture of Europe first hand. It's also a chance for students to acquire some important vocabulary in several languages, to interact with people of other cultures, and to form some special friendships with classmates who will be their traveling companions. This unique educational travel experience will add to all that they have learned previously and make past history and the contemporary present truly come alive!
Highlights:
When I was in high school, one of my teachers invited me to travel abroad one summer. Little did I know that when I said "Yes" to her invitation, it would alter my life forever. That first trip overseas was a true inspiration and it literally changed my whole perspective on life. It has been my observation over the 25+ years of taking high school students abroad that they return home with a new and more positive perspective on academics as well as a healthy respect, understanding and appreciation for people of other cultures. I've also noticed that after a trip to a foreign country, students tend to appreciate their own culture and country in a much more profound way. They also learn to share, cooperate, and get along with people they live with 24/7 for several weeks. Friendships are formed that last long after the return home. Accepting the invitation back then to travel abroad made all the difference in the world for me. Now it's my turn to do the inviting. I hope you'll say "Yes" and, in doing so, discover that there's a wonder filled world out there and you can be part of it. See for yourself! Joan W.
