The 5 Essential Elements of SPI Programs... 1. Students, teachers, and the director use their language of study throughout the program. 2. Students study at an accredited university or academically demanding language institute to receive college credit based on their transcript and/or the petition process. 3. Students live with a family in a city where they are required to use their developing language skills as they safely explore the community and establish friendships with local residents. 4. Students participate in high quality excursions to culturally important sights with teacher-guides that understand their level of listening comprehension, their U.S.-based curriculum and their interests. 5. The on-site program director & teacher travelers, are mature and experienced teachers that serve as a mentor, caregiver, motivator and model immersion student, conducts the entire program in the language of study.

About Siena In the heart of Tuscany and a short distance from Florence, Siena is one of the major cultural centers of Italy. Etruscan, Roman, Medieval, and Renaissance influences are visible everywhere. The center of Sienese life is found in the Piazza del Campo, a semi-circular plaza where people gather for coffee and conversation. This is also the best place to view the Palio delle Contrade, and annual horse race around the walled city. Itinerary: Day 1 Depart USA for Rome Day 2 Arrive Rome FCO Airport. Transfer to Hotel in the beautiful seaside village of Sorrento. Small walking tour around Sorrento, dinner and in bed early to get over jet lag. Day 3 Take boats in the morning to the Island of Capri. Visit Monte Solaro and Villa Jovis while on the island. Dinner upon returning to Sorrento. Day 4 Travel to Siena to meet your homestay family. Spend time getting to know your homestay family and start communicating in Italian. Day 5 First day of classes at Dante Aligheri Language Institute. Afternoon orientation tour around the city. Days 6-9 Regular morning classes and afternoon activities. Explore Siena and two neighboring towns in Tuscany in the afternoons with your director. Day 10 Full day excursion to explore Florence. Enjoy a personalized tour with Sra. Veal as you visit Uffizi, Accademia, Santa Croce, and Santa Maria Novella. Return back to Siena in the evening. Day 11 Enjoy a relaxing Sunday day trip to the beach! Days 12-16 Regular morning classes and afternoon activities. Days 17-18 Experience the preparations, races, and celebrations of the amazing Palio Festival in Siena! Days 19-22 Regular morning classes and afternoon activities. Enjoy the last evening on Thursday with your homestay family and new friends in Siena! Day 23 Depart Siena early for Rome! Hotel accommodations near the Vatican. Explore ancient Rome - Dinner at Trattoria del Pallaro and stroll through Trastevere Day 24 Medieval and Renaissance Rome walk - Piazza del Popolo to Campo de' Fiori. Lunch at Piazza Navona. Afternoon at one of Rome's many museums - Vatican Museums or Villa Borghese. Enjoy a final evening meal with your group at Pizzeria Montecarlo. Day 25 Depart Rome for USA.
