Our staff are between the ages of 15 to 22 and come from secondary schools and universities in the US, the UK, and Hong Kong. They are a diverse group bringing a variety of interests and backgrounds to the program. Common to all staff is a desire to help young people, a willingness to work in an intense and rewarding environment, and a commitment to both teaching and learning. Through intensive training and guidance from professional teachers, Summerbridge staff take on the responsibility of developing curriculum, teaching classes, advising students, meeting with parents, planning extra curricular activities, and evaluating student performance. Together, staff create a community that celebrates academic achievement, encourages creativity, individuality, and risk-taking, and values the learning that results from high expectations and hard work.
Highlights:
Summerbridge Hong Kong is a non-profit tuition-free summer and after-school enrichment program that has successfully worked for the last thirteen years to improve English communication skills and provide academic opportunities to financially disadvantaged students in Hong Kong. Summerbridge works with students that are highly motivated yet, due to their economic and/or family backgrounds, have fewer opportunities to succeed in school. Many of the students face obstacles such as having recently immigrated from China, attending schools provided in the government housing sector, or missing one or both parents. Key to its success, Summerbridge students are taught, mentored, and inspired entirely by older students from Hong Kong, the US, and the UK in an intensive English-only environment.
