What are London GCE O Levels?

GCE O Levels is an abbreviation for General Certificate Examinations at Ordinary Level. Students who enroll for this course typically range from 14 16 years of age. An O Level is standard UK qualification recognized worldwide. An O Level provides a foundation for further study or employment. They are available in a wide range of subjects covering the whole curriculum. Within the subject areas which are generally available, there is often a choice of several syllabuses. You can take any number of O Levels, depending on the qualifications that your chosen institutions ask for. Most students take between seven and ten O Levels after studying for two to three years in their chosen subjects.

Who is it for?

The London GCE 'O' level provides a good base for entry into London GCE 'A' levels or British Foundation Programmes. Good grades in six 'O' level subjects provide an acceptable measure for 'A' level and later university in UK, Canada, US, Singapore, etc. A good foundation in English is necessary to enter these programmes.

How is it conducted?

The GCE 'O' level programme is:

- Taken over 12 to 18 months (depending on your basic qualifications, grade and your age)
- All students are required to take compulsory courses in English and Mathematics
- Students choose any other 6 subjects from the following list of electives:

1) Accounting
2) Biology
3) Business Studies
4) Chemistry
5) Chinese
6) Computing
7) Economics
8) English Literature
9) French
10) Geography
11) Modern History
12) Mathematics
13) Physics

- Students take one final examination in each subject (in either January or May) and are awarded a London Edexcel GCE O' Level Certificate for those subjects passed.

- Unlike some other programmes at this level, there is no requirement to pass a second language in order to gain a certificate.
