10 Day Guatemala Expedition

Dates: January 3rd to December 15th.

Description: The University of the Valley of Guatemala offers an international service and learning experience unlike any other. Our 10-day, total immersion, Guatemala Expedition, places you on-the-ground in indigenous Mayan villages working side-by-side with farmers, rural school teachers, students, university professors, development workers and artisans.

You will learn about the diversity of cultures found in Guatemala and the complex interrelationships this creates.

Working in seven different villages, you will confront the realities of the problems and solutions encountered in Humanitarian Development.

10 Day Guatemala Expedition

Highlights: You will visit a disaster relief camp and get a sense of the loss and of the challenges. We will explore how man's impact on the ecology of the region can contribute to these disasters.

Gain a perspective on the myriad complex issues found in developing nations, on understanding the importance of long term community relationships and on introducing sustainable, practical solutions.

You will make friends in the beautiful villages of Guatemala and discover the personal relevance of touching one small country in an increasingly interconnected world.

Working in villages, with farmers, artisans, ecologists and relief workers, visitors learn about cultural heritage, humanitarian development, and environmental sustainability. UVG's goal is to give a practical, real world vantage of the complexities surrounding the solutions to the problems found in Guatemala and Central America - all while making new friends in one of the most beautiful countries in the world.
