Spain
Term: Summer
Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Dates: June 23 - July 25, 2007
Description:
Intrax Study Abroad: Explore Spain! Choose between our Month Immersion program or the Summer Cultural Exploration program in Granada. Spain is ideal for students who want to learn or improve their Spanish language skills while immersing themselves in Spanish culture and exploring regional sights. Month Immersion: Students who choose the Month Immersion program in Spain will live with a host family and experience the Spanish way of life firsthand, while practicing their conversational Spanish. The host family experience is the key component of this program and enables participants to gain a unique perspective into Spanish culture while providing invaluable language contact with native Spanish speakers. Participants do not attend school. Cultural Exploration: Students who choose the Cultural Exploration program attend language classes, experience Spanish culture through organized activities, and explore Spain on the weekends through guided excursions. Participants live with a host family in the city of Granada. On the Cultural Exploration program, intensive Spanish courses take place in the morning, Monday through Friday, for four hours per day. Students will be given a placement exam upon arrival and assigned to a class of the appropriate level. Classes are available for students of all levels, from beginner to advanced. Teachers emphasize a personalized approach, and the average student-to-teacher ratio is 8:1. The language school is located in the heart of historic Granada, just a 3-minute walk from the Palacio de Congresos. The famous Alhambra and Albaicin are only 10-15 minutes away by foot. Typical of Andalusian buildings, the school has lots of windows and balconies and is also air-conditioned. Program Requirements *No language requirement. *15-18 years old. *Motivated students with a 2.5 GPA or higher on a 4 point scale. *Mature, flexible, open-minded, and able to adapt to living with a host family. *Eager for the academic challenge of studying in a foreign school. *US Citizen/Resident- living in the US. Highlights:
Granada: A famous Spanish expression claims that there is "nothing so sad as being blind in Granada." After a few hours of walking around this medieval city, you will soon see why. Follow the cobblestone streets into the ancient Albaicín neighborhood and look out onto the awe-inspiring Alhambra, a majestic fortress which served as the final stronghold for the Muslim Empire before Spain's re-conquest in 1492. Bordering the Sierra Nevada mountains and only an hour away from some of Spain's most popular beaches, Granada is home to 300,000 residents, many of whom are students.
