To gain a deeper appreciation for some of the challenges facing China today, this trip also includes a one-week community service project in Sichuan province in a location affected by the earthquake. China Prep partners with Habitat for Humanity to arrange for trip participants to help build a house for a family in need in this area. This unique experience will help students appreciate recent events first-hand and give back to the communities we will visit. The four-week trip also provides the opportunity for students to build and use Mandarin Chinese language skills. Throughout the trip, China Prep organizes several structured language classes to teach practical skills for living and traveling in China. Program activities create situations for students to utilize these skills on a daily basis. Whether participants have studied Mandarin before or have never spoken a word of Chinese, our goal is that they will develop the confidence to use Chinese in real-world situations and master several essential language skills. In conjunction with our travel and experiential activities, we hope to inspire participants to continue Mandarin language study and stay connected to China in the future.
