Located in western France, Angers is considered one of the gems of the Loire Valley. It is situated on the Maine River in the heart of one of the largest forested regions of France. Angers enjoys its reputation as the most flowered city in Europe, with 1,297 acres of parks and public gardens and 222 acres of lakes and ponds. LPI students in Angers will appreciate the castles, flowers, fruits, and above all, the quality of the French language. The LPI director in Angers is available to assist students with tutoring, lead excursions and activities, or simply help students practice the French language. The director works closely with the LPI staff in Paris to plan all aspects of the program. LPI students are free to use all available facilities and services at the Universite Catholique de lOuest. Founded in 1875, the Universite Catholique de l'Ouest in Angers is the second-largest university in France and has been offering French instruction to foreign students through its Centre Internacional dEtudes Francaises (CIDEF) since 1947. This highly regarded institute receives approximately 1,600 foreign students from more than 70 countries each year and is an active France member of the French Language Universities World Association. Facilities available to students of the CIDEF include two libraries, multimedia and audiovisual rooms, a language laboratory and computer room with internet access. Due to the fact that students come from such various countries, all of the class instruction is in French.

LPI (Learning Programs International)'s Mission Statement: LPI, the high school division of International Studies Abroad (ISA) was established in 1989 to provide an academically challenging and culturally thorough study abroad program for U.S. high school students. Based in Austin, Texas, LPI reaches out to provide study abroad opportunities to students from across the United States. LPI works closely with fully-accredited foreign universities and the LPI resident staff in each program location in order to provide cultural activities, tutoring services, language exchanges, volunteer opportunities, and numerous possibilities for improving language performance. Through LPI, students are able to equip themselves with a working knowledge of a foreign language, earn college credit, experience another culture and explore the area around their program city through cultural excursions.
