Medicine in Nepal with Projects Abroad (2-week High School Special)

  Nepal
  • Kathmandu:
  • Kathmandu

Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks and 2-4 weeks
Dates: Sunday, 28th June - Saturday, 11th July ; Sunday, 19th July - Saturday, 1st August

Description: This 2 week special is designed to give you an unparalleled overview of a number of different areas of medicine. Based in the intriguing Nepalese capital Kathmandu, you will be spending time in the Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre for Disabled Children which is always an incredibly popular placement because of the fantastic work that goes on there.
You will also spend time in a maternity clinic, and visit a number of departments in different hospitals around the city.

Throughout your placement you will have the opportunity to observe many different medical facilities, and to learn about medical practices in a new country. Many volunteers find it really fascinating to compare the medical systems in their home country to those they discover in Nepal. You will live with a host family close to the areas that you will be working and participate in evening activities planned by our local staff. On the weekend there will be a trip to the central markets and local temples, as well as the option to explore the hills around Kathmandu by mountain bike.

Please Note: This project is only open to volunteers who are 16-19 years old.

Medicine in Nepal with Projects Abroad (2-week High School Special)

Highlights: For your accommodation, you'll live with a Nepalese host-family, which is a great environment for learning about a new way of life. All the families involved are extremely supportive of the projects carried out by Projects Abroad and are eager to experience an inter-cultural exchange and learn about the lives of volunteers.

Projects Abroad has opened here to give volunteers a truly unforgettable experience. Our office is in the bustling capital city of Kathmandu where jostling crowds, rickety bullock carts and noisy auto-rickshaws all contribute to the noise, character and constant energy of its traditionally narrow streets.

This program offers you the opportunity to become fully immersed in the culture in a manner which even the most hardened of backpackers could never hope to do.

Projects Abroad's Mission Statement: As part of the global economy, Projects Abroad helps create local employment wherever we send volunteers. Employing local staff overseas and using their talents and knowledge is important to us. This local knowledge and support enables the organization to channel the skills of the volunteers from more affluent countries to regions around the world where they are needed. Volunteers also learn from their placements and the people they meet, and they gain experience in a chosen field. In the 21st century, we believe this mutual respect is what cultural exchange is all about.
