French Summer Language Adventure 2008
Canada
Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks and 5-8 weeks
Dates: Sessions begin on June 23 - Aug 22
Description:
LSC's French Summer Language Adventure (SLA) offers an effective small group French language course combined with an adventure in Canadian culture and lifestyle. This program is designed to provide a language learning experience in a fun setting. During July and August every year, SLA welcomes teenagers from all over the world to Montreal, the world's largest bilingual/bicultural city. SLA's French language classes are small and the program is geared towards providing language learning in an entertaining and meaningful context. This is a total immersion program with emphasis on verbal communication and listening comprehension. SLA activities are chosen to ensure that students are offered a balanced mix of sports and cultural outings. Some activities include: tour of the Olympic Stadium and Tower, ice skating at the Bell Amphitheater, a walking tour of the old-city and port, cycling along the Lachine Canal, a visit to the Biodome, museum visits, roller blading, pedal-boating, min-golf outings, picnics at Mount Royal combined with sports, etc. Accommodations are offered with local French speaking host families or at the school residence: Under Option A, students are accommodated with specially selected local families that have an active interest in hosting younger students and who create a welcoming atmosphere for SLA participants. Full board is included in the program. An optional evening activity program is offered at additional cost for those students placed in host families. A copy of the optional program will be sent with the enrollment confirmation. Under Option B, students are accommodated in a local residence with other students participating in the program. The residence is located at a local private high school and is fully supervised by LSC staff. Prices for students staying at the residence include accommodations, full board, public transportation card, and the evening activity program (this program is optional for students staying in host families).
