Description:
Our 2-Week Winter Break Program in Ghana is a service-learning trip that provides a unique opportunity to learn about and contribute to Ghana's people and culture. The three main components of the program are: * Lectures * Field Trips * Volunteering The lectures will be presented by some of Ghana's leading professors and industry leaders on topics such as history, slavery, politics, the economy, gender, and sports. The field trips involve visits to some of Ghana's most important cultural landmarks and nature parks, such as the National Museum, Cape Coast Castle, and Wli Waterfalls. The volunteer work will involve working with children at an orphanage. Volunteers play games, arts & crafts, and sports with the children, as well as performing light physical work such as clearing gardens, planting trees, and painting the orphanage. Dates: December 28, 2009 to January 11, 2010. Costs Two-week Program Fee: 1,195 USD (Additional Weeks: 195 USD per week) Get a Free Trip! - Bring at least 3 other volunteers: we will waive your program fee entirely. - Bring at least 5 other volunteers: we will waive your program fee entirely and pay for your round-trip airfare. - By yourself? We will take take 15% off the program fee. Accommodation In a shared volunteer house or homestay. The accommodation will be basic but clean. Food will be local Ghana cuisine (rice, vegetables, meat, fish, beans, fruit) with vegetarians and vegans easily accommodated. Accommodations are a 5-10 minute walk to the orphanage. For some of the environmental projects, you'll travel with us daily by trotro (12-person bus). Where Is Ghana? Ghana is a safe, traveler-friendly, and politically stable country in West Africa. Your program will be based in the Volta Region about two hours from the capital city Accra. Who Can Go Ages 16+ Nationals from all countries Tax-Deduction The program fee, airfare and other expenses are tax-deductible for US taxpayers, including for parents and donors who pay expenses on behalf of a volunteer. Who Is Offering This Trip? Cosmic Volunteers is a tax-exempt charity based in Philadelphia that has been sending volunteers abroad since 2001 to Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
