Care & Conservation in Costa Rica (2 Week High School Special)
Costa Rica
Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Dates: July 12-25; July 26 - August 8
Description:
If you're interested in working with children, conservation, practicing your Spanish skills, and living in a gorgeous country, then look no further than this trip! Costa Rica is one of the most stable and well developed countries in Central America, creating a perfect mix for volunteers who want to experience Latin America.
Highlights:
You will spend one week working at one of our care projects in Liberia, Projects Abroad's main base in Costa Rica. Volunteers can help out by playing games with the children and giving them attention they would otherwise not receive. There is also the opportunity to provide some basic English lessons if you'd like to take part in classes. Living in Liberia provides a great opportunity to speak Spanish with local people if you're interested in improving or picking up some language skills. During your second week, you will be taken to one of the national parks where Projects Abroad volunteers work. You will be given an extensive tour of the area where you'll be working and then given tasks to accomplish by the time you leave. You may prepare environmental education materials for local children living around the park, paint buildings, and maintain and restore trails, paths, and signs. A weekend trip to an outdoor destination is included. Experience all the beauty this magnificent country has to offer while helping out on a volunteer project. Pura Vida!

Projects Abroad's Mission Statement: As part of the global economy, Projects Abroad helps create local employment wherever we send volunteers. Employing local staff overseas and using their talents and knowledge is important to us. This local knowledge and support enables the organization to channel the skills of the volunteers from more affluent countries to regions around the world where they are needed. Volunteers also learn from their placements and the people they meet, and they gain experience in a chosen field. In the 21st century, we believe this mutual respect is what cultural exchange is all about.
