Cookery in India with Projects Abroad (2 Week High School Special)
India
Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks and 2-4 weeks
Dates: Sunday, 19th July - Saturday, 1st August ; Sunday, 9th August - Saturday, 22nd August
Description:
Indian cooking is not just delicious and wonderfully spicy; it is also highly nutritious and steeped in tradition. South Indian cooking from Tamil Nadu uses the widest variety of spices and flavors of any cuisine in the world. This is an opportunity to learn how to make all the different curries that make up a Thali, to perfect a Dosa or to create mouth-watering coconut chutney.
Highlights:
At the same time, this is much more than a cookery course. You will learn some of the traditions and ideas behind an elaborate South Indian feast, experience catering for large numbers in a hotel kitchen and maybe even help to prepare a wedding feast. We will also provide one-on-one instruction on specific dishes, their preparation and presentation. Finally, once you've gotten to know South Indian tastes and can cook confidently, we will ask you to work in an orphanage kitchen for a couple of days, preparing nutritious meals with ingredients that you will personally shop for in the market. Then just sit back and watch all the - hopefully smiling - faces!

Projects Abroad's Mission Statement: As part of the global economy, Projects Abroad helps create local employment wherever we send volunteers. Employing local staff overseas and using their talents and knowledge is important to us. This local knowledge and support enables the organization to channel the skills of the volunteers from more affluent countries to regions around the world where they are needed. Volunteers also learn from their placements and the people they meet, and they gain experience in a chosen field. In the 21st century, we believe this mutual respect is what cultural exchange is all about.
