Sail Caribbean - Tropical Marine Science for Divers

  Bahamas
  • Other Cities in Bahamas:
  • Eleuthera

Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Dates: July 7 to July 27, 2010

Description: For certified divers or choose our "OW" program to get certified during the first 2 days of the program. Apply your diving skills while learning about the unique marine environment of the Bahamas. Live on land at the prestigious Island School on Eleuthera and enjoy camping, snorkeling and challenging sea kayaking adventures. Earn academic credit through research projects, field experiments and traditional classroom discussions led by staff from the Island School, Cape Eleuthera Institute and Sail Caribbean. The surrounding tidal mangrove creeks and shallow water habitats will be your laboratory as you collect data on local bonefish populations for your group research project. You'll lead and participate in discussions and activities as part of our True Course initiative for leadership training and personal growth. In addition to the academics and outdoor adventure activities, you'll also have the opportunity to earn 20-25 hours of community service credit through our local outreach activities. You'll teach local youth about the importance of water safety and then introduce them to the fun of snorkeling. You'll make a connection with the community through interviews with local fisherman and farmers whose livelihood depends on sea and land.
