Vienna Young Pianists Academy
Austria
Duration of Program: 1-2 weeks
Dates: July 27 - Aug 6
Description:
Vienna Young Pianists - the extraordinary piano event in Austria! An exclusive and varied festival with master classes, workshops and concerts for a maximum of 25 participants. Our program is especially designed for young pianists from the ages of 11 to 17 years. Each student receives 5 individual lessons with a number of different professors from our internationally renowned faculty. There will be workshops in jazz piano and contemporary improvisation, held in small groups. Two lectures will give the young musicians a deeper understanding of Mendelssohn's piano music and about career planning. Free practice facilities are available for participants from outside Vienna. The concerts include a piano competition for extraordinary artistic achievements. Joseph Haydn and Felix Mendelssohn both 2009 jubilees - and Austrian contemporary composers form the focal points of repertoire for our 2009 festival. The young musicians will be offered the opportunity to perform in Ehrbar Hall, one of the city's most beautiful concert halls - in which Johannes Brahms and Gustav Mahler once performed. Participants may attend all concerts free of charge. An interesting cultural and culinary excursion (optional) rounds off the Vienna Young Pianists program. It is of particular importance to us to create an atmosphere at once intimate and inspiring, and we look forward to welcoming the young artists in the surroundings of a city steeped in its long cultural and musical tradition.

Vienna International Pianists's Mission Statement: The Vienna International Pianists were founded by the Spanish pianist Jose Francisco Alonso, in order to create a community of renowned concert artists and young musicians. Alonso's successor as head of the organization, the Venezuelan native pianist Rosario Marciano died in 1998; since then the association has been led by the pianist Stephan Moeller-Spaemann and the composer Jorge Sanchez-Chiong.
Current activities of Vienna International Pianists are a concert series in Vienna, workshop concerts for student members and, as their main projects, the annual piano festival with concerts, workshops and two master class programs, "VIP Academy" for adult piano students and "Vienna Young Pianists", especially designed for young talents from 11 to 17 years.
