Description: AmeriSpan offers summer Teenager Study Abroad programs in 28 cities throughout the world for teenagers from 14 to 18 years old. Most programs include a language component (Spanish, Italian, French, Hebrew, Arabic, German, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese), lodging, activities and excursions. There are three different types of programs Summer Camps (most supervision), Junior Immersion programs and Independent Teen Programs (least supervision). You can easily compare all of our programs by requesting our 48-page, color catalog.

Guanajuato Junior Immersion

School Facilities: The school is located in a quiet residential neighborhood about 10-15 minutes from the city center of Guanajuato. The school has a casual atmosphere with indoor classrooms, a multi media room and a nice, sunny terrace. Free Internet access is available. Capacity is 130 students/day. Although teens participating in this program will share the same facilities as adult participants, all language classes are grouped by age and language ability. Students will share a room with another teen participant in a homestay. 2 meals/day are included.

Activities/Excursions: Both an afternoon and an evening activity are offered everyday. Activities are supervised by school staff and are conducted in Spanish. English translation is provided as needed. Activities may include: salsa classes, movies, culture classes on Mexican history, art, legends and customs, visits to museums, fiestas, etc. Weekend excursions are included and may include: visits to San Miguel de Allende, Dolores Hidalgo, and a picnic at Presa de Mata (local lake).

Lodging & Meals: Homestay with 2 meals/day

Supervision: Teen participants will receive group language classes with other teens only. All teens are placed in group classes according to their language ability. During class time, participants are monitored by their language instructors (ratio 1:10) as well as the school director and administration who are present at the school and available for students. The first day of the program the host family will accompany each participant to school. After the first day all teen participants are responsible for getting themselves to and from school/activities to their homestay. Although activities are not mandatory, teens are encouraged to participate. If teens choose to have free time, they may email at school, explore Guanajuato, go to the movies, ride horses, participate in sports with friends, or spend time with their host family. Outside of the school and homestay teen participants are independent and responsible for making curfew. Curfew is 9:00pm on weekdays and 10:00pm weekends. It is strictly enforced by the host family. The school directors will be contacted if curfew is broken by teen participants.

Highlights: Diversity is the word that best describes Mexico's people and geography. Over 50 different indigenous groups, each with its own language, comprise 28% of Mexico's 83 million inhabitants. Divided by the Tropic of Cancer into the temperate North and the tropical South, the country boasts snow-capped volcanoes, jungle clad beaches, deserts, archeological ruins, modern cities, upscale resorts, and isolated villages.

For nearly 200 years beginning in 1558, Guanajuato was one of the richest silver producing cities in the world. The city possesses many subterranean passageways and narrow, winding streets that make this location truly unique. Houses line the steep slopes of a ravine that once contained a river. This extremely charming city is culturally very lively and possesses an energetic, youthful personality. This is due in part to the 15,000 students attending the University of Guanajuato, which is known for its art programs. During the last two weeks of October, Guanajuato hosts the Cervantes Arts Festival, attracting famous artists from around the world

AmeriSpan Study Abroad's Mission Statement: Our mantra is "Every Language, Every Culture, Everywhere." AmeriSpan Study Abroad has over 15 years experience and over 30,000 past participants. Our staff has three passions: language, culture, and travel. Individually and as a group, we have accumulated experiences and knowledge related to these passions. AmeriSpan's staff has traveled to more than 65 countries, every continent except Antarctica, speak 10 languages, and we are happy to share this enormous amount of relevant knowledge with you. Every staff member has studied and/or lived abroad for extended periods of time. We are neither a language school nor a travel agent, we're a hybrid of the two: a language travel organization. AmeriSpan has evaluated hundreds of schools, host families and destinations to determine which programs to offer, and our independence allows us to give you unbiased evaluations of these programs. Our pledge to our participants is to make going abroad 'worry-free'. There is no risk in choosing an AmeriSpan program because you'll get the best program, best price and can cancel for any reason and get a full refund on every dollar we have received for your program.
