The Music Foundation provides a diverse and flexible program of study covering all aspects of Music and Music Technology. It is specially designed to provide an unrivaled breadth of content and flexibility, to allow focus on particular areas of students' musical passions as well as improving weaknesses to create well-rounded, confident musicians. Foundation students can expect a demanding course of study, combining compulsory and elective units as well as research projects to give a comprehensive overview of music history, theory and practice. Assessment is by a variety of methods, including exams, research essays, public performances, presentations and composition portfolios. Students looking to achieve places at university music schools will be well prepared for higher education, having already undertaken music research and performance. Students seeking conservatoire places will be given the opportunity to undertake extensive preparation for entrance examinations and auditions. All students are encouraged to build links with the music industry through course projects and key units throughout the year. Entry to the Foundation will be by one or more of the following: essay, interview and audition.
